Chris’ Glass Workshop
Glass artist Chris White runs regular glass crafting workshops at Upper Sheringham Village Hall.
He and his year 2012 students produced a window frieze to celebrate the Queens diamond Jubilee.
It is themed on a six hundred-year-old local legend and is based on a 15th century carving on a pew end at All Saints Church in Upper Sheringham.
The frieze is currently on view in the village hall.
The legend is there to be read by all and is adjacent to the work built by Chris’ students.
Chris was born in 1955 in the East End of London. He has had no formal art training although excelled in art and technical drawing at his High school in Romford Essex.
He left at the age of sixteen and trained as a mechanic servicing all kinds of office machinery working
in the City of London.
Later he turned his attention to the electrical retail trade. His advancement through the business saw his promotion to manager of several Co-operative retail stores based in London, Essex and Kent.
He moved to Norfolk in 1991 to run his own newsagents/shop and post office. After ten years he sold the business to pursue his love of glass crafting/teaching. As a trained and qualified adult education tutor he has seen many of his student’s take up this fascinating and rewarding craft all producing excellent work.
Some regularly exhibit their work and sell their creations at craft fairs.
Chris exhibits his work with the National Trust and numerous other private gardens. He also exhibits each year as part of the North Norfolk Open Studios event in his studio and garden just a mile from the historic
Georgian town of Holt. The exhibition takes place at the end of the Norfolk and Norwich Festival season usually in late May - beginning of June.
His work is occasionally exhibited in the atrium of the Forum in Norwich city centre.
His studio is a lovely old wooden bungalow near the Historic Georgian Town of Holt.
Chris offers one-to-one tuition in the studio. Those interested in these or the regular weekly classes in Upper Sheringham should contact.
